Alex R. Constantinescu, M.D., is the Medical Director of the Pediatric Nephrology and Hypertension Program, Medical Director of Pediatric Dialysis, and Medical Director of Pediatric Kidney Transplantation at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital in Hollywood, Florida.  Dr. Constantinescu received his Doctor of Medicine degree from the Victor Babeş University of Medicine in Timişoara, Romania. After completing internships and residencies at hospitals in Romania and New York, he was a fellow in pediatric nephrology at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine in New York. Subsequently, he followed an academic career at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson (RWJ) Medical School in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He received the Young Investigator Award of the National Kidney Foundation of NY/NJ in 1998.

Dr. Constantinescu became Associate Professor of Pediatrics and Medical Director of the Pediatric Transplant Nephrology program at RWJ University Hospital, until his relocation to south Florida in 2002.  He developed the comprehensive pediatric nephrology program at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital from diagnosis, with or without the help of kidney biopsy, to all forms of renal replacement therapy and kidney transplantation. In addition, he continued his academic activity by volunteering at University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, Florida Atlantic University (where he was awarded the FAU 2016 Outstanding Clinical Teacher in a Subspecialty), Nova Southeastern University Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine (where he is Clinical Professor of Pediatrics), NSU MD, as well as by participating in numerous multicenter studies, bringing cutting-edge therapies to children with kidney disorders.

Dr. Constantinescu is board certified in Pediatric Nephrology by the American Board of Pediatrics and is listed in “Best Doctors in America” and “Who’s Who in Healthcare.” He is a member of the International Pediatric Nephrology Association, American Society of Nephrology, American Society of Pediatric Nephrology, North American Pediatric Renal Trials and Collaborative Studies (NAPRTCS), Mid-West Pediatric Nephrology Consortium, Florida Society of Nephrology, American Society of Hypertension, and International Pediatric Dialysis Network. He has held leadership positions and is a member of the Clinical Trials Committee of NAPRTCS.

Dr. Constantinescu has published numerous original research papers and review articles in peer-reviewed journals, along with book chapters. His main clinical interests are childhood nephrotic syndrome, bone and mineral metabolism, hypertension, and renal failure, including dialysis and transplantation.
