Dr. Omair Abbasi is board certified in Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine. He received his M.D. degree from the University of Seychelles American Institute of Medicine and completed his training in General Psychiatry at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Dr. Abbasi then went on to complete a fellowship in Psychosomatic Medicine (also known as Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry) at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Dr. Abbasi joined the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine in 2019 to serve as the Psychiatry Clerkship Director. Prior to joining NSU MD, Dr. Abbasi served as the Assistant Clerkship Director at the Sidney Kimmel Medical College (SKMC) at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he was actively involved in pre-clinical and clinical medical student education along with being teaching faculty for the General Psychiatry residency program and the Consultation-Liaison Fellowship program. In his role, he received multiple teaching awards including the Robert Waelder Award for Excellence in Residency Education, The Dean’s Award for Excellence in Medical Education, and the Faculty Professionalism Award from the SKMC Class of 2020.

Nationally, Dr. Abbasi has been recognized by the American Psychiatry Association for his teaching efforts as a recipient of the Nancy CA Roeske, MD Certificate of Excellence in Medical Student Education. Dr. Abbasi is an active member of the Association of Directors of Medical Student Education in Psychiatry (ADMSEP) and the Medical Student Education subcommittee of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He has presented nationally on several topics involving medical student education and consultation-liaison psychiatry. His clinical interest includes neuropsychiatry (specifically Epilepsy), psychodynamic therapy, and psychological factors affecting obesity and weight management.
