Shannon Brown joined the Development Department at NSU in November 2015 and currently serves as senior director of development for the Health Professions Division (HPD). In her role, she is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and day-to-day management of an integrated development program in order to secure philanthropic resources for the College of Allopathic Medicine (M.D. College) and College of Pharmacy, as well as other Colleges within the HPD.

Brown has served in advancement roles for 15 years. She began her career as grants manager at Florida Grand Opera in 2003, where she generated and stewarded the Opera’s comprehensive portfolio of institutional funding. In 2010, she transitioned to higher education at Barry University. Initially hired as grants specialist, Brown quickly ascended through leadership positions within the Department of Grants and Sponsored Programs, including serving as associate director and interim director. In 2013, Brown transitioned to the Development Department to assume the newly-created position of director of foundation relations. She served in this capacity until late-2015 when she joined the NSU team.

Brown has taken on leadership roles with numerous community organizations, including board appointments with the Association of Fundraising Professionals’ (AFP) Fort Lauderdale / Broward Chapter (2014-2016) and the domestic violence direct-service nonprofit No More Tears’ (2011-2013). She served as event chair for the 2014 and 2015 National Philanthropy Day Awards in Broward County. Brown is an active member of CASE (Council for the Advancement and Support of Education), AFP, and Broward 2-1-1.

Brown is a native South Floridian and currently resides in Pompano Beach with her two children, Bryce and Leah.
