Dr. Emilio Merheb holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences with concentrations in Biochemistry and Neuroscience. He completed his Ph.D. and postdoctoral research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where his work focused on “Understanding the Mechanisms of RNA Polymerase III-related Leukodystrophy”.

Following his postdoctoral training, Dr. Merheb joined the Diabetes, Obesity & Metabolism Institute (DOMI) at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He advanced from Senior Associate Researcher to Instructor, where he led research on the “Characterization and Mechanisms Governing Human β-cell Development, Maturation, and Function”.

Dr. Merheb has presented his research at numerous prestigious international conferences and has earned several awards, including the Julius Marmur Research Award, recognizing his significant contributions to scientific inquiry. His work has been published in prominent peer-reviewed journals, including Cell Metabolism, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS), eLife, iScience, and Cells. His areas of expertise span endocrinology, metabolism, neuroscience, biochemistry, genetics, and molecular and cell biology. Dr. Merheb also serves as a peer reviewer and senior editor for several leading scientific journals.

With over a decade of teaching and mentorship experience across diverse disciplines, Dr. Merheb is deeply committed to academic excellence. His dedication to education was formally recognized with the conferral of a teaching diploma, underscoring his passion for fostering intellectual growth in future generations of scientists.
