Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine

Dr. Sharon Sholiton joined the faculty of the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine in May 2018 as an Associate Professor of Medical Education and currently serves as a Learning Community Mentor for the Blue Learning Community. Hailing from the Midwest, Dr. Sholiton trained on both coasts and enjoyed a long career in Chicago prior to relocating to South Florida. She graduated from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University in 1987 and completed her residency in Pediatrics at the University of California, San Francisco in 1990. She engaged briefly in private practice, prior to accepting an academic appointment at Rush Medical College in Chicago in 1995. Dr. Sholiton had a vibrant clinical career as a member of the Rush Pediatric Primary Care Center, an academic pediatric practice comprised of both faculty and resident physicians, who provided health care to the complex and socially underserved communities on the west side of Chicago. She engaged extensively in student and house staff teaching, served as a Resident Continuity Clinic supervisor, and implemented a 4th-year medical student elective in Ambulatory Pediatrics.

Finding a second passion for medical education, Dr. Sholiton served as the Pediatric Clerkship Director at Rush for many years and has been active in COMSEP, the National Committee on Medical Student Education in Pediatrics. She served as Chair of both the medical college M3 Curriculum Committee and the University Curriculum Committee and received the Rush University award for “Excellence in Education” in 2012. Dr. Sholiton was instrumental in founding an annual CME course at Rush for ambulatory preceptors, and also in activities supporting the medical school’s reaccreditation process. She went on to serve as an assistant dean, and later the Associate Dean for Student Affairs at Rush Medical College. In this capacity, she was responsible for overseeing career advising, academic support, residency application, and the Match for all Rush medical students. She is excited about joining the team at a new medical college and eager to support the needs of NSU MD students throughout their medical school experience.
