Faculty Advising Supports Students Every Step of the Way
Upon enrollment in Nova Southeastern University's Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine (NSU MD), you are assigned to a faculty adviser who is your go-to resource from that point on. Your adviser helps you proactively address problems and serves as a sounding board to discuss concerns related to your career as a medical student, such as matching, and elective selections. Services include:
Academic Progress
- Meet with students regularly throughout each year to discuss goals, progress, and study plans.
- Track and monitor each student’s academic and professional performance.
- Discuss career and specialty exploration.
Career Advising
- Serve as a resource for specialty-specific career planning.
- Help with decisions on course and clerkship schedules.
- Assist with preparation for the residency match.
- Serve as a resource for career advising tools available through the AAMC Careers in Medicine program.
- Assist and prepare students for post-graduate activities (residency via the National Residency Matching Program, Ph.D. or other graduate studies, etc.).

Professional Development
- Serve as a resource of the policies and procedures of NSU MD and NSU.
- Offer advice and support for students for academic and professionalism issues.
- Assist with development and implementation of remediation plans.
- Available to students via office hours and email.
- Serve as a resource with professional enrichment opportunities—i.e., summer research opportunities, yearlong research fellowships, pursuing additional NSU degrees during medical school, and other service learning opportunities.
