Dr. Bo-young Hong is an Associate Professor in the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine at Nova Southeastern University.
Dr. Bo-young Hong is passionate asa medical educator, mentor, and scientist. She is committed to effective teaching in various biomedical topics, especially Microbiology and Immunology. Her primary research interest is the human microbiome in health and diseases. She seeks to comprehend the fundamental biomedical questions in human health and disease by better understanding the human microbiome and its interaction with the human immune system using a multi-omics approach. She published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles and abstracts. She also serves as a journal reviewer and a NIH study section grant reviewer.
Before joining NSU, Dr. Bo-young Hong was an Assistant Professor in the Woody L. Hunt School of Dental Medicine at Texas Tech University Health Science Center, where she taught Microbiology and Immunology, and served as a Director of Biomedical Sciences and a College Mentor. She has also held a position in the Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine as a Scientist, where she has been involved in several clinical studies, including the NIH Human Microbiome Project.
Dr. Bo-young Hong received her M.S. degree from the Missouri University of Science and Technology and her Ph.D. degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton in Microbiology. During her postdoctoral fellowship training at the University of Connecticut Health Center, she was trained both as a microbiologist and a computational scientist.
In 2023, Dr. Bo-young Hong won the Peggy Cotter Award from the American Society of Microbiology.
