Dr. Vijaykumar (Vijay) Rajput joined the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine in 2019. He earned his M.B.B.S. at Bombay University, completed a residency in General Surgery at Bombay University, and completed another residency in Internal Medicine at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He also holds a postgraduate diploma in Medical Law and Ethics from the University of Glasgow. Dr. Rajput served as an Internal Medicine Program Director at Robert Wood Johnson, Assistant Dean for Curriculum at Cooper Medical School of Rowan University, and Head of the Division of Medical Education at Rowan University. He most recently served as the Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs and Professor and Chair of Medicine at Ross University School of Medicine.   

Dr. Rajput was an associate fellow at the Center for Bioethics at the University of Pennsylvania from 2009-2013. He also served as a senior note rater for USMLE Step 2- Clinical Skills examination for CSEC (NBME and ECFMG collaborative). He was active in clinical medicine as a senior academic hospitalist for the last 18 years at Cooper University Hospital, Camden, New Jersey. He was chair of the ethics committee for Cooper Hospital for 13 years. He is a member and has served on several committees for the American College for Physicians (ACP), Association for Program Director in Internal Medicine (APDIM), and the Society of Hospital Medicine (SHM).


Dr. Rajput has authored or co-authored more than 90 papers, abstracts and book chapters. He has presented more than 170 seminars, workshops, and grand rounds at national, international and regional educational conferences. Dr. Rajput serves on editorial boards and reviewers on several journals. Over the last 20 years, Dr. Rajput has received more than fifteen “Excellence in Teaching” awards from students, residents and national organizations like ACGME and SHM. He was awarded the ACGME Parker J. Palmer “Courage to Teach Award”— the most prestigious teaching award in 2011. He also received the prestigious Christian R. and Mary F. Lindback Foundation Award for Distinguished Teaching in 2006 and was inducted in the UMDNJ’s Master Educator Guild in 2005. In 2004, Dr. Rajput received an “Excellence in Teaching Award” from the Society of Hospital Medicine. He recently received a laureate award from the New Jersey chapter of ACP in 2015.


Dr. Rajput was a key founding member of the new Cooper Medical School of Rowan University’s curriculum and student affairs committees. He developed many new innovative curricula and serves as course director for innovative courses like the Chronic Care clerkship, Life Stages and the Foundation of Medical Practice. His main areas of interest are bedside teaching, professionalism, ethics, and humanism in medicine as well as, student well-being, mentoring and curriculum development.
