Dr. Alex Torres is an experienced emergency physician with additional subspecialty training and experience in emergency medical services (EMS). Throughout his professional career, he has provided direct patient care in emergency departments and prehospital environments in both the civilian and military settings. He brings a vast skillset that encompasses clinical expertise, leadership excellence, and management.

After completing residency training in emergency medicine (EM), Dr. Torres completed fellowship training in EMS and Disaster Medicine in New Jersey and obtained board certification in both EM and EMS. From 2019 – 2021, Dr. Torres was a faculty member of the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) and core faculty for the emergency medicine residency program. He taught preclinical and clinical education during his time at UMSOM and then was mobilized to active duty as a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserve critical care air transport team (CCATT). During his deployment, he served as a clinical subject matter expert and held various leadership positions for his team and squadron. After deployment, Dr. Torres transitioned back to civilian life where he continued his clinical work at Cleveland Clinic Florida and joined Broward Sheriff’s Office Fire Rescue as an Assistant Medical Director.

As he remains dedicated to bettering the fields of emergency medicine and EMS, Dr. Torres has multiple publications pertaining to prehospital medicine and EMS, with a particular interest in air medical transport. He continues to be involved in various aspects of EMS, to include fight medicine, transport medicine, operational medicine, event medicine, and tactical medicine.  

Dr. Torres is a Florida native and completed his undergraduate work at Florida State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. He completed his medical degree at the West Virginia School of Osteopathic Medicine and his residency at Comanche County Memorial Hospital in Oklahoma. While in residency, he also completed his Master of Business Administration at Cameron University. His fellowship was completed at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center in New Jersey. He holds medical licensure in Florida, New York, and New Jersey and is a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians and a member of the National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP). For NAEMSP, he has contributed to joint publications and serves on the Air Medical Services Committee and the Education Committee.
