Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine
Dr. Arkene Levy is a Professor of Pharmacology in the Department of Medical Education. Before joining the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine, she served as a Professor of Pharmacology at the University of the West Indies in Jamaica, for ten years.
She obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology and Chemistry, and a Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus. Dr. Levy completed postdoctoral training as a Fulbright Scholar, in cancer research, at Moore’s Cancer Center in San Diego, California.
Dr. Levy’s current research focuses on understanding mechanisms of drug resistance in ovarian and prostate cancer. This research also involves the evaluation of natural products and natural product derivatives for efficacy in drug-resistant cancers.
Dr. Levy has published over 15 peer-reviewed publications, as well as two book chapters in the fields of pharmacology, natural products, and cancer therapeutics. She is a research advocate for the facing our risk for cancer empowered [FORCE] organization, and a recipient of the 2018 American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) minority and minority-serving institution faculty scholar in cancer research award.
Dr. Levy enjoys teaching and strongly believes that engaging students by promoting critical thinking, is the key to producing excellent scientists and medical professionals.
