Dr. Kate J. F. Carnevale joined Nova Southeastern University as an Assistant Professor of Biochemistry in the Fall of 2018. Dr. Carnevale enjoys teaching Biochemistry to several Health Professions Divisions Colleges, and especially loves the wide range of student interactions she has within the Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine, though teaching, Block Directing for Brain, Body and Behavior, and facilitating inquiry and problem-based learning for MD students during their pre-clerkship training.
Dr. Carnevale earned dual B.S. degrees in Chemistry and Biology from the University of North Florida in 2012, while working as a Certified Pharmacy Technician, and as a Research Assistant on natural product antibiotic properties with Dr. Amy Lane. She went on to earn her M.S. (2015) and Ph.D. (2018) in Biochemistry from Florida State University, while working as a Research Assistant on bio-functionalizing nanoparticles for biomedical therapy and imaging applications with Dr. Geoffrey Strouse.
Shortly after joining NSU, Dr. Carnevale was awarded a President’s Faculty Research and Development Grant FY20 to continue her work on genetically engineering mesenchymal stem cells using peptide functionalized nanoparticles for cellular therapy. While this project is on hold due to the current pandemic, Dr. Carnevale has been mentoring medical students on public health and biochemical metadata analysis projects, as well as working on a collaborative project investigating the correlations of health professional students study strategies with their academic outcomes.
