Dr. François Sainfort joined NSU in 2017; serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of Management as well as Director of the Complex Health Systems Program in the H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship. He is also a Professor of Population Health Sciences in the NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Allopathic Medicine.

Prior to joining NSU, he was a tenured full professor at the University of Wisconsin (Industrial Engineering and Population Health), distinguished professor at Georgia Tech and Emory University (Industrial Engineering and Biomedical Engineering), and the University of Minnesota (Health Policy and Management). He served as the Associate Dean of Interdisciplinary Research for the College of Engineering at Georgia Tech. He also served as the founding Director of the joint Health Systems Institute at Georgia Tech and Emory University.

Dr. Sainfort is an accomplished, internationally known expert in decision sciences, medical decision making, health care quality management and measurement, health outcomes research, mathematical modeling, and data sciences, cost-effectiveness research, and evidence-based medicine. Throughout his career, Dr. Sainfort’s goals have been to understand individuals and organizations confronted with challenging health or health care issues and develop and utilize decision making models and theories to design tools, systems, and interventions to help individuals and organizations obtain and use smart data and actionable information in making decisions, managing health and health care, changing behaviors, and improving health outcomes.

To date, he has received over $60 million in extramural research contracts and grants, as principal or co-principal investigator. He has received uninterrupted research funding from federal agencies for 25 years and has received multiple awards from various professional societies.

Dr. Sainfort has published over 175 refereed scientific publications that have appeared in health care journals such as Annals of Internal Medicine, Value in Health, Health Services Research, Medical Care, Medical Decision Making, Medical Care Research and Review, Health Care Financing Review, Gynecologic Oncology, Psycho-Oncology, American Journal of Psychiatry, Retina, The Gerontologist, Journal of Aging and Social Policy, Diabetes Care, Population Health Management, Journal of Endourology, Academic Radiology, Military Medicine, HCA Healthcare Journal of Medicine, and Quality of Life Research. His research has also appeared in decision sciences and management journals such as Operations Research, Journal of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, Behaviour & Information Technology, Journal of Statistical Computation and Simulation, and International Journal of Human-Computer Interaction.
